Coming soon: Syncing fonts to your desktop
For four years, Typekit has given you access to a library of premium web fonts; now we’re bringing together fonts for desktop and web in a single subscription. You’ll be able to sync fonts from Typekit to your desktop via Adobe Creative Cloud and use them in all your applications for web mockups, print design, word processing, and more. This feature will be included with paid Creative Cloud subscriptions, as well as standalone subscriptions to Typekit Portfolio, Performance, and Business plans.

Coming to your desktop
Many of the fonts in the Typekit library will be available for desktop use right away, starting with 175 font families from these top-tier foundries.

Typekit has thousands of web fonts available for browsing today. Typekit is included with Creative Cloud subscriptions, too; just log in with your Adobe ID username and password to get started. (If you have an existing Typekit account, link it to your Creative Cloud subscription.)
Frequently asked questions
- Will I download the fonts and install them on my computer?
- You won’t need to download and manage any files. The Creative Cloud application will automatically install the fonts in the appropriate location depending on the operating system. While your subscription is active, the fonts you sync will be available for use in the font menu from any of your desktop applications.
- Will I have to be online to use the fonts I’ve synced?
- Synced fonts will be available for offline use as long as the Creative Cloud application is running in the background. Quitting the app will make the synced fonts temporarily unavailable.
- Will I be able to use desktop fonts in any application, or only in Adobe apps? Can I use them in CS6?
- Desktop fonts synced from Typekit will be available in all your desktop applications, including older versions of the Creative Suite and even non-Adobe applications.
- Will I be able to use Typekit desktop fonts in PDFs?
- Yes, desktop fonts from Typekit will be licensed for embedding in PDFs and other electronic documents, such as EPUB and Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite (DPS).
- What happens to my desktop fonts if my subscription ends?
- Fonts that you get via desktop sync will be available on your desktop for as long as your subscription remains active and the Creative Cloud desktop application is running. If you discontinue your subscription or uninstall the Creative Cloud desktop application, desktop fonts from Typekit will be removed. If you then wish to continue using those fonts in the documents you created, you’ll need to purchase the necessary license from the foundry or an authorized reseller.
- How will that work when my print bureau requires me to send a packaged version of an inDesign folder?
- The Typekit Terms of Use do not allow copying or moving of font data that has been synced to your desktop computer. Print bureaus will be able to access desktop fonts through their own Creative Cloud or Typekit subscription, or you can create a PDF to transfer for print output. (Note that most existing font license agreements – including that for the Adobe Type Library and Font Folio – do not allow sending font files to third parties, unless that third party has their own license to the same font.)We want to make it as easy as possible for Typekit users to get their work to print bureaus or anywhere else. We are currently exploring the best way to integrate Typekit desktop fonts with the packaging feature of InDesign and Illustrator.
