THE FILM
'From Bedrooms to Billions' is a two hour feature length documentary film telling the remarkable, true story of the British Video Games Industry from 1979 to the present day and how the creativity and vision of a relatively small number of individuals allowed the UK to play a key, pioneering role in the shaping of the billion dollar video games industry which today, dominates the modern world's entertainment landscape.
'From Bedrooms to Billions' has been an amazing journey for us simply because it's been the culmination of over 10 years work. We have always wanted to tell the story of the UK Video Games Industry. Why is it such a unique story when compared to most other countries? Where did it come from? What was it like to be part of it and then where did it all go? What happened in that golden period is an important British achievement full of talented, brilliant people who inspired a whole generation of youngsters to follow in their footsteps, we've always felt that it simply must be documented while the majority of the key people involved are still alive to tell the tale.
We now have over 50 hours of interview material from gaming legends such as Matthew Smith, David Braben, Gary Penn, Rob Hubbard, Julian Rignall, Martin Galway, Jeff Minter and many many more.

In 2012 we successfully ran our first crowdfunding campaign which allowed us to begin the principle photography, so we've been filming almost continuously throughout 2012 and are very close to completing all filming in 2013. Now in order to enhance the film, we really need your help to secure archive footage, stills, music usage and clearances. These elements will really lift this film and help make it the true and lasting documentary movie experience that the subject matter deserves.
We are currently negotiating with archive houses and suppliers to provide the relevant material for the film and work is well underway on the editing of the main body of the film.

We also have limited numbers of some incredibly rare, signed boxed computers and games from the likes of Matthew Smith, David Braben, Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway to name but a few, so we really hope there is plenty of fantastic perks for you to enjoy.
Please help us to finish this film, so we can tell this wonderful story and document once and for all the UK's contribution to the biggest entertainment business in the world, the Video Games Industry.

Risks and challengesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter

This is our second crowdfunding campaign for 'From Bedrooms to Billions'. Our first campaign was run on indiegogo and surpassed our intended target, the campaign was so successful it was placed in the top 12 most successful indiegogo film campaigns of 2012. The money raised from that campaign has allowed us to shoot the interviews for the film.
As established filmmakers we realise the importance of being able to secure and manage funds properly, which is why we always wanted to run seperate campaigns for the production and the post-production budget. Thanks to our first campaign we have an amazing fan base for the film that has supported us throughout the film's production and we are very excited to be getting closer to completing the film because without them so much would not have been possible.
We are very experienced filmmakers and have written, produced and directed various acclaimed documentaries for theatrical, broadcast and commercial release, including ‘The Story of The Young Ones’, ‘Alternative Rebellion: The beginning of Britain’s Alternative Comedy Scene’, ‘Doctor Who - Stripped for Action’ for the BBC, as well as ‘George Michael – FAITH’ and ‘Jeff’s Wayne’s The War of the Worlds’ for Sony Music. We have also made two documentaries on gypsy punk group ‘Gogol Bordello’ for Channel 4 and produced the celebrated world music TV series ‘Soundcheck at Momo’s’.
We were commissioned by the government of Macau to produce the official documentary film on the East Asian Games and have also worked with the rock group ‘Pink Floyd’ to produce theatrical and television versions of their film ‘Pulse’ which was distributed worldwide.
2010 saw the release of our first feature film, ‘Immodesty Blaize – Burlesque Undressed’, which had a worldwide theatrical release and then later on DVD and terrestrial broadcast.
In addition to this work we have always had a real passion to produce films that document the video games industry. Some of our work has included short films such as ‘The Newsfield Years’ which looks at 1980’s CRASH & ZZAP!64 video game magazine publishers Newsfield Publications and a making of on ‘Ant Attack’ featuring creator Sandy White. In addition we have been commissioned to document worldwide franchises such as an official 10th anniversary film on Virtua Tennis (Virtua Tennis - 10 Years Gone), as well as the official Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Anniversary documentary titled ‘Sonic - The Birth of an Icon’ which was broadcast worldwide.
2012 saw the release of our films ‘Hitman – Burning Hope’ an in-depth ‘fly on the wall documentary account of the production of ‘Hitman Absolution’ and ‘Jet Set Radio – A Rude Awakening’ a retrospective look back at the iconic game with the original creators and graffiti legend Eric Haze.
So as you can see we have the experience necessary to run this campaign and complete the film but we really need your support and belief by backing us. We welcome any feedback and information you want to give us and are regularly in touch with our supporters. We also regularly release snippets from the interviews so people can see what we are doing and how the film is coming together.
